Gietl Park, formerly Northeast Park, was acquired in 1968. The park is bounded by Wilcox School on the north and includes Veteran's Memorial Pool (formerly the private Suburban Aquatic Club). Gietl Park appears larger than its 11.7 acres because the park land blends with the adjacent school grounds.
Gietl Park has 3 ball diamonds with fenced outfields. The 2 smaller fields have new dugouts. The larger field is lighted and has older dugouts and a storage building. The soccer field in the northwest corner of the park occupies both park and school land. It is used by the public high school for practice and games. A playground with both new and older equipment is located on the park's east side. The park is accessible from surrounding neighborhoods. One narrow sidewalk runs the length of the park along Stanhope Road. A new parking lot has been constructed north of the playground with access from Stanhope Road. Additionally, Veteran’s Memorial Pool and 3 accompanying acres, directly south and adjacent of Gietl park was added in 1997.
Gietel Park was named after Louis Gietl, Sr. who was a past Park Trustee.
