Kennedy Park is on the north side of Springfield adjacent to IL Route 29 between Walnut Valley and Hawkeye Way. Added to the park district in 1988, its 27 acres are leased from the Springfield Airport Authority at Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport. The site is relatively flat and bordered on the east by residential development.
Kennedy Park is developed primarily for sports activity. Three baseball fields are provided with two soccer fields overlaying portions of a diamond. Additionally the park contains a cricket and rugby field with a new large picnic shelter. A concession and storage building and a playground are centrally located in the park. A parking lot is provided on the south side. The park is heavily used during baseball and soccer seasons.
This Park was named after John and Robert Kennedy. The Springfield Airport Authority owns the land and the park is a cooperative effort between the Park District and the Airport Authority.
