The Springfield Park District's Lifeguard Training Program is your ticket to a rewarding summer job at one of our beautiful pools. Not only will you gain life-saving certifications like CPR, First Aid, and AED, but you'll also be playing an essential role in keeping swimmers safe while enjoying the sunshine.

The Lifeguard Training Program
Our Lifeguard Training Program offers everything you need to become certified, so you're ready to take on the responsibility of ensuring safety at our pools. We’ve designed the program to be thorough, but also flexible for those with busy schedules.
Course Sections:
- Feb. 21-23
- Mar. 7-9
- Apr. 18-20
- May 16-18
Course Schedule:
- Friday: 5-9 PM
- Saturday & Sunday: 9 AM - 7 PM
During these sessions, you’ll participate in a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on training to learn the ins and outs of lifeguarding. The course will cover everything from safety protocols to how to respond in emergency situations. You’ll also complete written, practical, and scenario-based exams to ensure you're prepared to handle any situation.
What You’ll Need to Do
To participate, here’s what you need to do:
- Schedule and Pass a Free Pre-Test Evaluation
Before the course begins, you'll take a free pre-test to assess your swimming and physical abilities. - Attend All Course Sessions
Be sure to attend every session (Friday evening and all day Saturday and Sunday). This will ensure you’re fully prepared for the challenges of being a lifeguard. - Pass Exams
You’ll need to pass written, practical, and scenario-based exams to earn your certification. - Commit to Working as a Lifeguard
In return for your commitment to becoming a lifeguard with the Springfield Park District, you’ll receive up to $300 reimbursement for your certification costs after two summers of employment!
