SPRINGFIELD PARK DISTRICT CELEBRATES 125 YEARS OF ENRICHING LIVES

[Springfield, IL] – Tomorrow marks a historic milestone as the Springfield Park District celebrates 125 years of enriching lives through parks, people, and possibilities. Established on February 8, 1900, the Park District has been a cornerstone of the community, providing residents and visitors with beautiful parks, recreational activities, and opportunities for outdoor enjoyment.

In honor of this momentous occasion, the Springfield Park District is inviting the community to celebrate with a special $1.25 Public Ice Skate Session at the Nelson Center Ice Rink. This one-day-only event allows families and friends to come together and enjoy one of the many recreational offerings that have made the Park District a beloved institution for over a century.

“For 125 years, the Springfield Park District has been dedicated to fostering recreation, conservation, and community well-being,” said Leslie Sgro, President of the Springfield Park Board of Trustees. “We are excited to celebrate this milestone with the community and look forward to continuing the mission of providing high-quality parks and memorable recreational programs for generations to come.”

Since its founding, the Springfield Park District has expanded to include 36 parks, 2,500 acres of land, multiple recreational facilities, and year-round programming designed to enhance the quality of life for all residents. From serene nature preserves to cultural landmarks and family-friendly activities, the Park District remains vital to Springfield.

As the celebration continues throughout the year, the Springfield Park District will be hosting special events, activities, and giveaways to commemorate this milestone. Residents are encouraged to follow the Springfield Park District on social media and visit springfieldparks.org for updates on upcoming celebrations.

Join us at the Nelson Center Ice Rink tomorrow to celebrate 125 years of parks, people, and possibilities.
