Accessibility and Inclusion Policy for Persons with Special Needs
The Springfield Park District welcomes participants of all ability levels. Accessibility and Inclusion Policy for Persons with Special Needs - The Springfield Park District welcomes participants with all abilities. Any individual with a special need should contact our staff upon registration so that we can make the necessary accommodations. ADA Statement
We will not discriminate against any eligible participant on the basis of a disabling condition. We invite any participant with a special need to contact our staff upon registration so that a smooth inclusion may occur. In addition to the programs listed on the website our district provides additional services for people with disabilities through our Special Recreation Programming department. Contact our ADA Compliance Coordinator at jgraham@springfieldparks.org for more information.
Nothing ruins a good program quicker...
than everyone waiting until the last minute to register. Please register one week before the start of the first class you wish to participate in to avoid possible program cancellation and disappointment.
Resident v. Non-Resident
The Springfield Park District is committed to serving the residents of the Springfield Park District. Springfield Park District residents may be different from City of Springfield residents.
A resident is defined as anyone living within the boundaries of the Springfield Park District. Residents support Springfield Park District facilities and programs through property taxes and therefore receive preferred rates for many of the services provided by the Springfield Park District. Code of Conduct
All park goers, facility patrons, and persons permitting park space for private events must adhere to the Springfield Park District’s Code of Conduct.
- Show respect to all participants & staff
- Refrain from using foul language
- Refrain from causing harm to other participants or staff
- Refrain from damaging equipment, supplies, and facilities

Alcohol
Carry-in alcoholic beverages are prohibited in parks and facilities.
General Facility Rules
All facility participants are expected to follow the rules of the facility. Specialty areas in facilities have posted signs stating special rules specific to that area. Disregarding or abuse of facility rules may result in removal from the facility for a designated length of time or permanently. Parking
Drivers must use designated parking areas. However, if the parking area is full, drivers are permitted to park along park district surface streets so long as at least two wheels always remain on the paved street at all times.
Smoking
Smoking and vaping are strictly prohibited in facilities, stadiums, and the Henson Robinson Zoo. Additionally, we ask that you be courteous to others when in our parks and remember that playgrounds are “Kid Friendly Zones” - Smoking is discouraged.

Photo/Video Disclaimer
On occasion, Springfield Park District staff may photograph or video participants during Park District programs, classes, and events at facilities or in our parks. These photos may be used in our seasonal brochures, on our website, and in addition, uses as the Springfield Park District deems necessary. If you do not wish to be photographed, please step away from the camera or notify the photographer.
Oops!
Occasionally, there may be an error that appears in print or online regarding days, times, requirements, fees, or other information. When such errors occur, the Springfield Park District will do everything possible to correct the situation promptly. Thank you for understanding!
Warning of Risk
Recreational activities/programs are intended to challenge and engage the physical, mental, and emotional resources of each participant. Despite careful and proper preparation, instruction, medical advice, conditioning, and equipment, there is still a risk of serious injury when participating in any recreational activity/ program. Understandably, not all hazards and dangers can be foreseen. Depending on the activity, participants must understand that certain risks, dangers, and injuries due to inclement weather, slipping, falling, poor skill level or conditioning, carelessness, horseplay, unsportsmanlike conduct, premises defects, inadequate or defective equipment, inadequate supervision, instruction or officiating, and all other circumstances inherent to indoor and outdoor recreational activities/ programs exist. In this regard, it must be recognized that it is impossible for the Springfield Park District to guarantee absolute safety.
Park District Waiver
A Waiver and Release of All Claims form must be signed when registering yourself or your minor child for Springfield Park District programs and/or memberships. Registration waivers are available at all Park District facilities or when registering online.
CANCELLATION
Staff reserves the right to consolidate, postpone, reschedule, or cancel any program due to changes in days, dates, times, instructors, or insufficient enrollment.
We may also cancel programs or events due to unforeseen circumstances such as inclement weather, facility emergencies, or scheduling conflicts. Announcements will be made as far in advance as possible and all attempts will be made to reschedule canceled classes. However, the District is sometimes unable to accommodate make-up classes and will not refund money in such instances.
