Are you looking for a wonderful and affordable way to host your next outdoor celebration? Look no further...
The Springfield Park District has over thirty picnic areas and shelters throughout our parks located near playgrounds and ample green space. A permit is required for group picnics of 15 or more persons, so plan to get a permit for your next gathering, birthday party, picnic or family event!
While you may picnic at any of our parks for free, advanced reservations are strongly recommended to secure an area or shelter for your special occasions. All rentals include picnic tables and a trash receptacle.
Wanting to host a charitable Walk, Run or Event? These activities require a special permit, with additional fees reserved at specific amenity shelters. Download the Park District Walk/Run Event Application and email it to parks@springfieldparks.org.

General Reminders:
Electric Limits
The electrical limitation of our picnic sites and shelters are 20 amps each. It is your responsibility as a renter to know the amperage of the items you are plugging into these outlets and to not overload the circuits. We do not have staff on evenings or weekends who are available to come out and reset the breakers.
Age Restrictions
You must be 18 years or older to permit/rent a park shelter. See the documents folder for a list of important information and our full rental waiver requirements.
Amenity Shelters
*Amenity Shelters have more than one table, power, water and/or restrooms nearby. They typically rent for a higher permit fee than our Basic Shelters.
